HERBERT ROGERS KENT, ALSO KNOWN AS “THE COOL GENT,” made an indelible mark on the world of radio broadcasting. Herb Kent’s journey into radio broadcasting began in the vibrant neighborhoods of Chicago, where music was the pulse of the city. Growing up surrounded by the rich sounds of jazz, R&B, and soul, Herb discovered the power of music to connect, inspire, and uplift. Herb quickly became one of the most influential figures in the industry. Known for his smooth voice, engaging personality, storytelling and deep connection with his audience, Herb was a trailblazer in urban radio and a pioneer in promoting R&B, soul, and jazz music.

The Herbert Rogers Kent Foundation (“HRK Foundation”) is dedicated to promoting excellence in radio broadcasting and empowering individuals and communities through education, mentorship, and advocacy.

Our vision is to be a catalyst for positive change in the radio industry and beyond, inspiring future generations to embrace the power of communication, creativity, and cultural expression. Through our programs and partnerships, we strive to cultivate a more inclusive, equitable, and vibrant media landscape.
The Board

Robbin Kent, is the Founder of the HERBERT ROGERS KENT FOUNDATION. The only child of the iconic radio personality, Herb Kent, she brings expertise from a career in sales, restaurants and events to shepherd her late father’s legacy.

Allison is the Assistant Executive Director of THE HERBERT ROGERS KENT FOUNDATION and interim BOARD CHAIR. She is an entertainment veteran, host, creator, and executive producer of THE BRAIN TRUTH podcast and TV Show. She is a board member of NAMI: South Suburbs, QPR Certified in Suicide Prevention, a National Mental Health First Aider for Youth, and a Peer support group facilitator for NAMI Illinois.

Frank A. Goss is an author, entrepreneur, executive producer, and award-winning documentary director. He is known for his book, “The Handbook for All Professionals”, which covers essential topics for professional development, including interviewing, workplace politics, professional appearance, and etiquette. The book is widely regarded as a comprehensive guide for individuals looking to improve their professional skills and is also used by corporations for training and development purposes.

Mary is currently, since 2009, the Executive Director of AGORA Community Services Corp., a HUD-Certified Housing Advising Agency and an approved Affiliate of HOMEFREE-USA, a National Housing Intermediary with HUD. Mary’s background includes Real Estate Broker, Professional Speaker with an emphasis on community financial literacy. Mary has received Leadership and Financial Literacy Awards in 2022, 2023 and 2024 from Law & Finance 2.0 National Conferences where she participated on Panels and Fireside Chats.

Robert Harris, Treasurer of the HERBERT ROGERS KENT FOUNDATION, is a seasoned financial expert and dedicated youth advocate. As the CEO and Founder of SMJGroup LLC, he specializes in tax preparation, bookkeeping, strategic tax planning, and consulting. Robert has worked with minority youth for many years as Director of Special Programs for the National Alliance of Business and the Chicago Alliance of Business. He also founded Little Miracles Rehabilitation Services, providing critical support services to youth who were wards of the Department of Human Services.
