HERBERT ROGERS KENT, ALSO KNOWN AS “THE COOL GENT,” made an indelible mark on the world
of radio broadcasting. Herb Kent’s journey into radio broadcasting began in the vibrant
neighborhoods of Chicago, where music was the pulse of the city. Growing up surrounded by the
rich sounds of jazz, R&B, and soul, Herb discovered the power of music to connect, inspire, and
uplift. Herb quickly became one of the most influential figures in the industry. Known for his
smooth voice, engaging personality, storytelling and deep connection with his audience, Herb was
a trailblazer in urban radio and a pioneer in promoting R&B, soul, and jazz music.
The Board
The Herbert Rogers Kent Foundation (“HRK Foundation”) is dedicated to promoting excellence in
radio broadcasting and empowering individuals and communities through education, mentorship,
and advocacy.
Our vision is to be a catalyst for positive change in the radio industry and beyond, inspiring future
generations to embrace the power of communication, creativity, and cultural expression. Through
