     Herbert Rogers Kent, was "The King of the Dusties," and the longest-running DJ in the history of radio, with a remarkable career spanning over seven decades. A legendary radio personality in Chicago, Illinois, Kent's journey began at the age of 16 when he started hosting a classical music program at WBEZ, while still a high school student. Over the years, his smooth voice and innovative style became iconic, shaping the oldies music format he dubbed “dusties.”

     A passionate civil rights activist, Kent used his platform to advocate for equality and change, becoming a beloved figure both on and off the air. In 1995, he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame, and in 2009, he earned recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records for the "Longest Career as a Radio Presenter/DJ (Male)."

     Born on October 5, 1928, Kent was a graduate of Hyde Park High School and Northwestern University. He also shared his knowledge as a part-time instructor at Chicago State University, giving back to the youth, and teaching courses in radio broadcasting. On October 22, 2016, Kent passed away at the age of 88, leaving behind an enduring legacy in the world of radio and beyond.
